A Really Cool Classic 1966 Batman TV Show Toy

Batman and Robin 1966 2-packOne of the TV shows I enjoyed as a kid was the old Batman TV show starring Adam West and Burt Ward. It was just the right amount of action, gadgets and zaniness. It was fun seeing some of the characters from the comics portrayed by real people, even if it was a bit silly.

In just about every other episode Batman and Robin would find themselves having to climb up the side of a building with the aid of the bat-rope. Since the show didn't have a big budget they filmed these scenes by turning the camera on its side and built a set to make it look like the crime fighting duo were climbing up a building even though they were just walking in a crouched-down position.

It was pretty common for big stars of the day to pop up from a window and say hi. Dick Clark, Sammy Davis Jr and even Lurch from the Addam's Family showed up. The thing that made these scenes really funny is the ridiculously fake climbing. Most of the time their capes weren't even held up to look like they were really horizontal and the way they crouched down in a "climbing" position was very strange.

But that's part of the charm behind the old Batman TV show. It didn't take itself too seriously. I watched it quite a bit as a kid and now there's a new toy that I'm pretty excited about. It's a 2-pack of Batman and Robin and it comes with a base that looks like the side of a building, complete with 2 open windows. It's not shown in the picture but I believe there will be a bat-rope included. The thing that really makes this cool is that you can hang it on the wall so Batman and Robin really will be climbing up!

It's available for pre-order right now and is reasonably priced at around $32.99. Check it out at Big Bad Toy Store or Entertainment Earth today!
